History

Organized by local business owners and farmers of Langley, Washington, Whidbey Telephone Company was incorporated in 1908. Now known as Whidbey Telecom, our company has been providing local telephone services for over 100 years. Whidbey Telecom has contributed to the stability of our local communities
through philanthropy and personalized customer care while also providing leading-edge technologies and innovative services to our customers.

In 1953 David C. Henny purchased controlling interest in Whidbey Telephone Company and by 1961, we had become the first local telephone company in the nation to bury 100% of our local lines. This investment has yielded long-term benefits to our customers in terms of increased network reliability and decreased impact on the scenic beauty of our communities.

In 1994, we accomplished a major advancement when Whidbey Telephone Company became the first local independent telephone company west of the Rocky Mountains to offer internet services. Today, Whidbey Telecom Internet & Broadband is the leading provider of internet-related services in our area.  Our Internet & Broadband services continue to improve and increase in performance by embracing and pursuing advances in technology.

Over the years, our network upgrades and enhancements have continued. In the year 2000, we introduced broadband services to South Whidbey by deploying our Digital Subscriber Line technologies, otherwise known as DSL or High-Speed Internet. By 2002, customers throughout both the South Whidbey and Point Roberts service areas had access to broadband, an accomplishment that many large telecommunication companies were not able to achieve until much later.

As we entered the new millennium, the tradition of progress continued. Between the years 2000 and 2002 alone, we advanced our internet technologies and launched three new businesses to serve our customers including Whidbey Telecom Long Distance, Whidbey Telecom Security & Alarms and FiberCloud, Inc., our
Data Center Services business. Each of these groups share the Whidbey Telecom commitment to deliver leading edge solutions to our customers and reflects the highest level of customer service and quality with value. We are perceptive, attentive, and responsive to the needs of our customers.

 In 2003, our Internet services were further complemented with the addition of Wi-Fi "Hot Spots" and new High-Speed Internet offerings. Both additions enabled the company to pursue even more modern solutions, anticipating our customer's needs.  

In 2004, the decision was made to move the branding of Whidbey
Telephone Company in a new direction. The previous brand and logo which had served us for so long was replaced with a contemporary logo and renamed to "Whidbey Telecom". Whidbey Telecom's latest look and brand represents our family of services committed to meeting the needs of our customers and the communities we serve.
