Plus Addressing
 |
Plus Addressing is a way to identify your incoming email using the "To" field.
To use it, simply give out your email address with a "+Something" of your choosing. |
For example, consider the email address:
johndoe@whidbey.net
If you wanted to give your address to the Seattle Mariners, you might give them:
johndoe+Mariners@whidbey.net
Or:
johndoe+Baseball@whidbey.net
Plus Addressing has 3 advantages:
1. You can better tell what the email is about before opening the message.
2. You can create a filtering rule in your email program, to sort messages on the "To:" address.
3. If you begin to receive spam, you know who leaked your address to a spammer.
Our Plus Addressing is compatible with forwarding, "Personal Domain" and domain hosting services.
Plus Addressing with Webmail or IMAP
Those using our new Webmail or IMAP can have their messages automatically sorted.
Simply create a new folder with the name of a Plus Address, for example:
Mariners
Email sent to "johndoe+Mariners@whidbey.net" would now be placed into that folder. If the folder doesn't exist, the message will arrive in your "Inbox".
Please remember these three points:
1. There can be no spaces in the folder name.
2. Only the first letter may be capitalized. (e.g. "MarinersBaseball" wouldn't work).
3. This is presently the only way to automatically filter email in Webmail.
