What comes in your self-install kit:

Whidbey Telecom uses several different types of internet modems, depending on the level of internet service you sign up for and what’s available in your area. Although they may be different sizes and shapes, they all have the same basic components. Every modem kit should come with the following:

  • Internet modem (the main box)
  • Power cord
  • Ethernet cable (may be either yellow, blue, white, black or grey. The color does not matter.)

Whidbey Telecom also offers fiber modems for customers of The BiG GiG Fiber Network, which has slightly different equipment. The BiG GiG Fiber Network is only available in select areas and professional installation is required.

Step One: Connect Modem

Modem install with splitter

Connect one end of the ethernet cable to the wall connection, and then connect the other end to the modem.

NOTE: A splitter should be used if your internet connection will be shared with a phone line, as seen to the right. If one is required, it will be provided in your kit.

Connect the power cord to the modem, and then plug the other end into an electrical outlet.

Step Two: Activate Equipment

Wait for the internet light on the modem to turn a solid color. This may take up to 12 minutes.

After 12 minutes, the power light and internet light will be steady. Other indicator lights will blink periodically.

What comes in your HOP WiFi self-install kit:

  • HOP WiFi unit
  • Power cord
  • Ethernet cable (may be either yellow, blue, white, black or grey. The color does not matter.)

Set One: Connect HOP WiFi

Find a central location to place the WiFi. This way, the internet signal will be able to travel more effectively throughout the house.

Connect the power cord to the HOP WiFi unit, and then plug the other end into an electrical outlet.

Step Two: Connect WiFi to Modem

Modem with HOP WiFi (your modem may look different)

Connect the ethernet cable to the HOP WiFi unit Port 1.

Then connect the other end of the cable to your modem. This can be any of the ports labelled ETH, as seen to the right. (The ports on your modem may also be labelled LAN.)

Step Three: Activate Equipment

If there are no lights, ensure power button is depressed. All lights will blink initially. After 2-12 minutes, the power light and 2.4G LED will be steady. 5G LED will blink periodically.

The HOP WiFi unit is already preconfigured with the network name and password you provided. If you can not remember please call Tech Support at (360) 321-8324 for assistance, available 24/7.
