The orchestral spotlight shines on Whidbey Island this summer as the Pacific Northwest Conducting Institute (PNWCI)returns for its ninth annual session, August 4-9, 2025. Hosted in the charming seaside town of Langley, the six-day intensive workshop draws orchestra conductors from around the world for a week of musical growth, collaboration, and performance.
Led by internationally acclaimed conductor, composer, and lecturer Diane Wittry, along with Dr. Anna Edwards, Music Director of Whidbey’s Saratoga Orchestra, the program offers immersive training and podium time with a professional-level ensemble in an inspiring Pacific Northwest setting.
The week culminates in a celebratory Summer Festival Concert, open to the public, on Saturday, August 9 at 2:00 PM at the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA). The concert will showcase PNWCI’s 2025 Conducting Fellows leading the Saratoga Orchestra in a dynamic program including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, Edward Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, W.A. Mozart’s Overture to “The Marriage of Figaro” and others. A pre-concert chat with the participating conductors will begin at 1:15 PM.
